Akisiti is the Amharic word for aunt. The bag is named for the second mothers, the women who arrived in the kitchen and at the school gate and at the difficult conversation, who provided the kind of guidance that is not bound by parenthood but is no less essential.

The shape is generous and forgiving. The bag carries the items of a full day: a notebook, a tablet, a folder of papers, the small items that gather around a person whose role in many lives is to hold things together. The interior is undivided, with a single pocket for documents and a smaller one for keys. The lining is suede.

The leather is calf, vegetable tanned, finished by hand. The handles are doubled, sewn to the bag at four points for strength, long enough to clear the shoulder when needed. The hardware is brass, kept minimal. There is no logo applied. The bag belongs to the wearer.

Akisiti is the bag for the woman who arrives where she is needed. It carries what she carries. It does not ask for attention. It holds, the way the women it is named for held those who came after them.
